Brand Illustration for Mantelligence

Mantelligence is a lifestyle brand and online magazine that exists to help guys become better men. It can also be described as a lifestyle brand that deals with every aspect of manhood from dating and relationships to ones social life and mental health.

The Challenge

They were looking more characters to add to their brand illustration system. This would be a part of their advertising in a way that is consistent with their overall look and feel which was already established. They already had their main character(Beardy) on the right who was created to be someone their target persona can relate to. We also added a female character named Emme(M) on the right beside him and a series of other characters to make the brands messaging more engaging. We further developed the other 4 characters (Emme, Tony, Genevieve and the Capuchin monkey) and they are all described below in detail.

Tony(Arch Nemesis)

Tony is a Jersey shore type of character that you would normally find in reality shows. He is a high-school jock that loves the spotlight or the kind of guy people might hate or think he is obnoxious. His confidence is through the roof and can be more cocky and extroverted. He is obsessed with the gym and sports. Goes to the bar and orders a vodka water. We used a set of illustrations to capture his different facial expressions as well as the right poses to bring the characters persona to life through various visual expressions.

Genevieve (Hottie)

Genevieve is not the kind of girl you would bring home to conservative parents. She is the opposite of Emme who will be described next. Genevieve usually flirts but rejects Beardy who is the main character. She is represent the kind of girl that everyone is trying to hook up with and is a little more erotic and sassy. Her poses, facial expressions and bright colors help to convey her character.

Emme(M) Female Character

We also created a more lighthearted and down-to-earth female persona. Emme is ‘the girl next door’ but she can be described as the opposite of Genevive and can be pretty sweet, kind and can also be quite goofy. She is a pretty, tan and fit brunette that acts as the girl the character may be having problems talking too.

Female Expressions

We used illustration to capture various female emotions and expressions in a way that was consistent with the brands look and feel. We captured the expressions like falling in love, happiness, anger, sadness, sleep, sickness, screaming and flirting. Overall the character was a success and also helps the target audience try to better understand women.

Capuchin Monkey

The Capuchin Monkey is a silly, mischievous  and playful character that was created to act as a brand mascot. The monkey moves freely to entertain. We thought he would a great addition to add more personality to the brand. Historically they have often been used in TV shows and movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. We were able to capture both the facial expressions and body movements which were based on the animals found in central and South-America but we added a more cartoon twist to them in a way that is consistent with the brand.
